Celebrating love and friendship at Pastry Passion

Our friendship goes way back.  I’ve known them since we were in high school.  Ever since, they’re my family outside my own.  We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs.  We’ve witnessed each other’s triumphs and failures.  They were the ones who never left my side when I realized that I didn’t know who I was anymore.  They were the ones who encouraged me to ask for support because, according to this wise person, “It takes a strong one to acknowledge that she needs help.”

They were two of those people who celebrated the most when I declared that I’m over being sad, depressed, resentful, and angry.  They celebrated with me not because they felt like they ought to but because they know that they are part of the journey.  Every bit of it.  They are two of those I consider my friends, in the truest sense of the word.

And, because it was G-anne’s 30th and all of us are about to embark onto something new and wonderful, we decided to meet up and celebrate, like we always do.  This time at an old love – Pastry Passion.

Pastry Passion is located along West Avenue in Quezon City.  I’ve always considered it a quiet little nook that has provided a space for me for a lot of things – studying for some of my law classes, having conversations with friends, and writing for work or for my own pleasure.

I first heard about it from my friend, Mel, who spent time in Pastry Passion to study for her MA and prepare for her teaching classes, among others.  It was only a couple of years ago when I found out that this place was owned by a relative of one of my good friends, Sarji.  Again, small world. :-)

Years ago, we would spend a minimum of four hours here, munching on our favorites (blueberry cheesecake, cheese sticks, bolognese) and drinking coffee and several glasses of water while sharing updates, laughing, crying, and laughing again.  Yes, we’re crazies like that.

And, this particular meet-up was no different from the others.  We enjoyed our time in Pastry Passion, sharing stories, and acknowledging how far we’ve gone and how beautiful our possibilities are – G-anne will be ending her contract with her current work and will have more time for her kid and also for her art, Mel’s on a journey to freedom, and I just said yes to providing technical work for an NGO and am about to start a couple of projects close to my heart.

I enjoyed my time yet again in Pastry Passion.  With old and awesome friends.  Yep, it was good to be back. :-)
