Kodanda Archery Range

Chill messaged me Friday to invite me to Kodanda Archery Range.  Located at the upper basement of Makati Cinema Square along Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo) in Makati City, this place is worth checking out even for those who are not fond of venturing into that part of Metro Manila.  It’s a space to let you release the inner Katniss in you. :)

I was really excited about going to Kodanda.  It was my first time to try archery after all!  I was even sharing with my family who had different reactions – you will not hit your target, you might hit other people, you will not last long carrying the heavy bow – that all pointed to “Weh.”  Haha!  Some confidence they have in me.  Tsk tsk.

Of course, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it.  I said yes to the invitation because I saw it as an opportunity to try something new.  And, having that same courage was also why I got to conquer my fear of heights, resign from a job that I didn’t want to spend eight hours of everyday of my life on, explore the off-the-beaten paths, and actually live the life that I love.  So, upon arriving and having gotten prepped up, I listened carefully to my instructor as she taught me the basics of archery.

And, it paid off!  I hit the yellow in the target after several tries!  And, I just really had to ask Chill to take a picture of me with it.  Haha!  I wasn’t sure if I could do it again.

And, I did. A couple more times!  Not bad for a first-timer, eh?

I am not at all athletic, see.  But, I find it that archery is something that I can take on as a sport.  And, it’s not just because I got to hit the target.  But, because I find it relaxing.  Something that I can compare to yoga.  While doing archery, I was conscious with my breathing, my pulse.  I listened to my body.  And, I missed that.  :)

So, even if I really hate venturing into that part of Metro Manila that is Makati, I was glad that I spent my Sunday evening at Kodanda. And, yes, my friends and I are already in the talks of when we’re all going to try it together. That’s sure going to be fun!

For those who are interested in trying archery out at Kodanda Archery Range, here are some useful info:

Where is Kodanda Archery Range located, what are its operating hours, and how many can it accommodate?  Located at the Upper Basement of Makati Cinema Square, Chino Roces Avenue (formerly Pasong Tamo), Makati City, Kodanda Archery Range is open from 10:30 AM to 7:30 PM.  It is a fully air-conditioned indoor archery range with seven (7) 10-meter lanes and a function room that can accommodate up to fifteen (15) people.

What should you wear?  The only requirement is that you wear rubber shoes (or, in my case, I wore sneakers, hehe).  All the safety gears will be provided by Kodanda.

How much does it cost to try archery out at Kodanda Archery Range?  Their rate is Php 550.00 per person, per hour, which includes:  use of the archery range, rental of international-standard equipment and protective gear (armguard, fingertab, chestguard, quiver, recurve bow), and coaching on archery basics from expert instructors.  For those who already have their own gear, the range rental is Php 200.00 per person per hour.  Not bad, I would say.  And, for an additional Php 30.00, clients can take home their target paper as a souvenir.

Do they offer archery lessons and how much is the fee?  Yes, they do!  For Php 6,000.00, you can have ten (10) sessions of one (1) hour per session, and the sessions will be adjusted to your schedule.  The fee already includes the use of the archery range and rental of international-standard equipment and protective gear.  Plus, dedicated coaching on basic or advanced archery from one of their expert instructors, who include:  Syd Nerickzon Fraginal, former Philippine player and SEA Games record holder;  Ronalyn Alvarez, former NCR Team member and Palarong Pambansa winner; and, Ronna May Alvarez, former member of developmental team of the Philippines.  After ten (10) sessions, you will also be issued a Certificate of Completion.  Cool, eh?

What about group packages?  Groups of up to 15 guests may avail of Group Packages that includes use of the private function room and range, rental of international-standard equipment and protective gear, and coaching on archery basics from expert instructors.  It may also include parlor games and/or coaching sessions depending on the intention of the group.  Rates also vary depending on the exact number of guests and duration of stay in the range.

Do you have any more questions?  Feel free to contact Kodanda Archery!  Shoot them an email at kodandaarchery@gmail.com or call them up at +63.2.621.9109 or +63.932.843.6614.  You can look for May for your reservations or other inquiries.

Oh, what is Kodanda?  Kodanda, which is Sanskrit for “he who has a bow”, is the name of the great bow and constant companion of Rama as he overcomes evil in the Hindu epic Ramayana.  A good name choice for an archery range, right? :)
