Backpacking Thailand: Stay at D-Well Hostel in Chiang Mai

There are a lot of options for accommodation in Chiang Mai, Thailand, to be honest.  They’re very much prepared to welcome tourists and the options are very responsive to your budget as well.  If you still haven’t decided on where you would be staying in Chiang Mai, Thailand, for a few days, I highly recommend that you stay at D-Well Hostel.  Why so? :)

Budget-friendly, definitely

Since I would be staying in Chiang Mai for a few days, I scouted the net for the perfect spot to call my home while I would be there.  Being quite an indecisive fella, it was soon enough that I realized that I needed to set some standards to limit my options.  Apart from the main things I look for whenever I travel – near enough the places I would like to visit, clean T&B, air-conditioned rooms I would definitely look forward to sleeping in after a tiring day, and with wifi – I also set a budget of 350.00 THB per night, since I would be traveling alone and I didn’t want to put an unwelcome dent on my budget.  So, when I found D-Well Hostel, whose rates are only 300.00 THB/night and with pictures and reviews that are encouraging, I knew that it was the perfect place for me.  And, I never regretted pressing on that “Book it” button. :)

Easy-to-find location, great accessibility

Just about 15-20 minutes away from Chiang Mai International Airport, D-Well Hostel is an easy-to-find place, even if it is your first time to visit Chiang Mai.  I just handed the address (details at the bottom of this post), written in Thai, to my driver and he brought me there with no kinks at all.  It was also quite easy for other drivers to find.  We just mentioned “200 Thapae Rd.” and we were brought there in no time.  A big plus, specially if you’ve never been to a place and not very familiar with their language.

No sweat checking in

When I arrived at D-Well Hostel, I was warmly welcomed by one of the owners, Farm.  He asked me to register some information about myself and give a 500.00 THB deposit, which was returned to me after my stay.  As I also extended my stay for two (2) more nights (the first night I paid through AirBnB), I paid for the remaining amount without any hassle.

Cleanliness is key

I was also given my key and a tour of the place by Farm. I liked it that we had to leave our footwear before we go upstairs.  This means that the dirt accumulated by all guests from the adventures they experienced for the day will be left downstairs.  Our sleeping area would thus be clean!  Oh, they also provide colorful slippers that you can use, if you don’t have one and if you don’t want to walk around barefoot.

Comfortable beds = restful sleep

D-Well Hostel’s rooms are quite spacious.  I was appointed a single bed at the bottom of a double decker, the sheets of which were perfectly cleaned and made up.  There was a pillow soft enough to give me a good night’s sleep.  Plus a duvet (yes a duvet!).  I also had my own socket (same as the one in the Philippines), light source, plus curtains to have my own privacy at night.  There are also curtains that you can keep open if you and your roommates are having conversations and which you can also close if you would like to have some privacy.  This was very helpful, especially on my first night – my first legit sleep after being awake for more than 24 hours.  I slept until around noon and didn’t even notice my roommates leave, haha!

Own spacious locker for safekeeping your valuables

All us guests of D-Well Hostel were provided our own lockers, where we kept our valuables.  The lockers in our room had two levels – one which I used to put my backpack in and the other one where I put my laptop and other things that I would need for my next few days.  Good thing Justine lent me her lock but you can also just ask the front desk if they have a spare one.

Clean T&B with water heater

There are two T&Bs as well, one for the boys and one for the girls.  The girls’ had 2 toilets and 2 shower areas, which were all very clean!  They also had water heater, which provided a nice shower before tucking in for the night.

Free hi-speed wifi

Yes, that was very nice because it was strong enough for me to hold Skype video calls.  For its price, I would really say that it was a good deal.

Superb customer service

This was apparent even before I booked a room with them.  Farm spoke impeccable English, which gave me a good impression about the place, ‘cos I knew that I wouldn’t have any problems conversing with them when I got there.  They were also very accommodating and helpful.  Shout-out to Beam, who helped me in booking my tours!

Would I book again with D-Well Hostel?

Yes, definitely.  If I would ever catch myself booking a ticket to Chiang Mai, Thailand, again, I wouldn’t have second-thoughts booking a room with them.  Apart from the location, amenities, and superb customer service, I also see it as a melting pot of cultures – something that I was definitely looking forward to when I was just creating my first solo trip to Thailand.  :)
